Dinner Time: PERFECT TIME to Rebuild Family Togetherness Eating together strengthens family bonds

In sociology, one recognizes the significance of eating meals together. This plays a big role in the stability of families. However it is becoming alarming how the fre- quency and duration of meals eaten together is rapidly diminishing. Television and new media are a great threat to this valuable ritual. If at all, dinner is one of the only times during the day when a family comes together. It is often underappre- ciated how important it is to spend time together and to share their day and feelings with each other. Dinner offers parents the opportunity to make the meal enjoy- able while bringing the family together. Good food, good conversation, and a good mood are the ingre- dients to a valuable family meal.
Many challenges that families face could be diminished or even conquered by having a daily meal together with positive conversations. Many problems are caused by the fact that today people don’t talk enough with one another.
Eating meals together as a family should return inde- finitely to its place as a tradition within each family. This will take a lot of effort on everyone´s part, but it is possible and can be achieved with small steps. For example, one can start with Sunday evening and then day by day adding them to the plan. But most impor- tantly, the television should be kept off so that it won't interrupt or prevent conversation.
This time spent together can really bring the family together and help the parents to play a bigger role in their children’s lives. Parents can make sure that the children are doing well in school both academical- ly and socially. Not only will great conversation be a part of the meal, but also healthy and nutritious food. Parents can make sure to educate their children about proper eating habits as well as making eating fun. Additionally, instead of eating the same few meals over and over again, you could incorporate meals from around the world and learn something about that culture as you do so.
It is also important to know the meaning and worth of food. Where does the food come from? How was it produced? Where were the plants grown? How were the animals treated? These are all questions that your family should be discussing and where you can influence your children to be knowledgeable about what they put in their bodies.
